Blake Lively Changes Seven Times in Five Hours: See Her Whirlwind Sidewalk Fashion Show!

It’s already common knowledge that Blake Lively may be something of a superhuman when it comes to style. She’s got the tall legs, tan skin and perfect hair of the most popular girl in your high school, and manages to pull off pretty much any look — from low-key denim to super-high fashion — without breaking a sweat. But we didn’t realize she also had the style superpowers to do lightning-fast wardrobe changes between her many media appearances Tuesday to promote The Age of Adaline. Take a look at the rough timeline, below, then let us know if you’re tired just looking at her.

7:55 a.m., visiting Good Morning America: Blake arrives at the GMA studios in a front-zip two-tone plaid ensemble with a peplum, patch pockets and sequin embellishments throughout, plus a pair of dove-grey Christian Louboutins. Her signature loose locks are swirled and pinned at the crown of her head and her lipstick is a glossy pink.

8:43 a.m., Good Morning America: Somehow in the five minutes between her sidewalk walk and her sit down with George Stephanopolous, Lively changes into a very similar but ever-so-slightly different look. This one, an all-red number, has the same sequin/plaid print on the skirt, but in a longer, fuller cut, and with a studded leather bodice. She slips on some scallopped black Christian Louboutin heels and an armful of bangles before sitting down to tell Stephanopolous that her daughter’s name is James because “I liked having a boy’s name, and I wanted to pass it on.”

8:51 a.m., leaving Good Morning America: Her hair’s unpinned and in a ponytail, she’s toned down her lipstick — and, oh yeah, she’s changed into a totally bold and graphic Roksanda coat-and-dress look, which she teams with gold-striped Christian Louboutin pumps.

9:01 a.m., Live With Kelly and Michael: The sun is out in N.Y.C. and Blake’s got her brights on. She arrives at the studio in an ’80s-inspired fuchsia wrap with a mix pinstripes and bold contrast stripes, then takes the motif even further with a pair of striped ankle-wrap Alexa Wagner heels.

9:23 a.m., Live With Kelly and Michael: For her appearance on the show (in which she announced she slept two hours last night — and yes, still looks like that) she chooses a surprising palm print jumpsuit, teamed with red lips, red heels and a retro-inspired half-up do with smooth curls.

11 a.m., Sirius XM Studios: Continuing with the koi theme from Sunday’s premiere, the star opts for a fish-print ensemble consisting of a wildly printed skirt, artsy top and allover print coat. Lace-up Sophia Webster sandals and a topknot, plus a bright pink lip, finish this look off.

11:30 a.m., leaving Sirius XM Studios: The star steps out for lunch in a lilac Cushnie et Ochs look of high-waisted pants, a textured top and a matching coat. Bubblegum lips and hair that shows no sign of the trauma it just endured are the finishing touches. And now we’re off to take a nap after looking at all of that.

Which is your favorite? Can you believe she made all those changes?

Blake Lively Wears $10 Million in Jewels (Not to Mention Other Insanely Pricey Pieces) Over the Past Week

We’re still not sure how it was physically possible to change outfits 11 times in one day, as Blake Lively did yesterday (yes, we said 11, and yes, we’re exhausted just cataloging her style stamina). And because she wore straight-from-the-runway pieces and megawatt jewels, we had to check the running tally of her insane sidewalk fashion show. We tracked down the most expensive dresses, coats, heels and jewels (the latter totaled $4 million yesterday) the actress sported during her unbelievable style parade.

Landov(2); Jamie McCarthy/Getty

First up: Sunday’s The Age of Adaline N.Y.C. premiere looks, which kicked off Lively’s “change-every-five-minutes” schedule and just so happened to be the most dramatic (and expensive) of her entire press tour. She stunned on the red carpet in a bright red Fall 2012 Monique Lhuillier ballgown ($10,990), Judith Leiber koi clutch ($5,995), Sophia Webster “Rosalind” heels (part of a special capsule collection but similar styles run near $500), and Lorraine Schwartz and OFIRA jewels (combined total: $5 million). Of the twisty white diamond earrings she wore, Schwartz (a longtime Lively pal) tells PEOPLE, “They are so chic! They are classic with a modern twist.” (See what she did there?)

As if that “emoji-chic” look wasn’t fancy enough, Lively did a complete outfit change for the after-party. This time, a Monique Lhuillier Fall 2015 sheer jumpsuit ($2,995) and Fall 2015 tuxedo jacket ($3,395) with coordinating black sparklers and Christian Louboutin heels.

RELATED PHOTOS: I Really Love My: Kendall Jenner’s Affordable Necklace & More!

“She looked so gorgeous,” says Schwartz of Lively’s premiere looks. “She is really so hands on and she doesn’t follow rules and she does what she wants. She loves to play with jewels and that’s how we became such good friends. Between her and [Schwartz fan] Beyoncé, you cant ask for better models. She has a great eye and a true appreciation for jewels. She gets excited like a little girl when she sees jewels. She gets a smile on her face… She takes chances, she’ll be bold, she’ll be classic, she’ll be elegant — she’ll change her look. That’s what my jewelry is about — to empower you as a woman to have the look you want. Jewelry is as important to her as any part of the outfit.”

In fact, Lively stayed up until 3 a.m. with Schwartz and Ofira Sandberg (of OFIRA), handpicking pieces that perfectly accessorized the super-expensive styles she wore Tuesday to impress the press.

Blake LivelyMichael Simon/StartraksPhoto(2); FameFlynet; Splash News Online

Kicking off the day at Good Morning America in a Roksanda ensemble, she paired the cerulean blue Eltham coat ($3,455), with the coordinating Lockwood color block dress from the Resort 2015 Collection ($1,730) and accessorized with Christian Louboutin pumps ($875).

At SiriusXM radio, she wore a monochromatic Cushnie et Ochs’s Fall 2015 collection outfit consisting of a Wool Felt Coat, ($2,695), Cashmere Silk Netting Long Sleeve Top ($995) and Stretch Cady High Waisted Pant ($895).

And you’ll want to start saving now for Lively’s Fall 2015 Balmain striped high-waisted pants, because pieces from previous collections run nearly $3,000.

Finally, if you thought her affordable ($290) Kristinit wrap dress (available on the Preserve.us website!) was too good to be true, she went with a super-pricey Alexa Wagner “Ellen” pump ($1,075) to bring the look right back to “insanely-expensive” territory.

This Week's Celebs Wearing Crazy Pants Update Is Brought to You By Blake Lively, Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus

While Blake Lively, Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus made headlines for plenty of other reasons this week — Lively wore more than $10 million in jewels, Cyrus didn’t shave her armpits and Kardashian posted a selfie (We know. Something new and different for her.) — we feel that the real headline here is that that they all stepped out in truly crazy trousers that must be seen and discussed.

Miley Cyrus, Blake Lively, Kim KardashianWenn; Thelonius/Splash News; Blayze/Splash News

Since splitting with boyfriend Patrick Schwarzenegger, Cyrus hasn’t been afraid to let her true colors show. That is, assuming her true colors are those in this candy-striped pant and matching coat ensemble, which she wore while leaving Chanel’s Rodeo Drive shop. We just have so many questions: First, did Karl Lagerfeld see her in those pants before she entered Chanel’s threshold? Does he consider them sweatpants (and if so, does that mean she’s given up on life)? Did she reenact the Pretty Woman scene when she went inside?

RELATED PHOTOS: Obsessed or Hot Mess: Vote on These Daring Looks

Lively’s The Age of Adaline press tour has been so unrelenting and overwhelming (see here and here for a recap) that it would have been easy to miss her Balmain Fall 2015 high-waisted pants (even with the bright colorblock yellow and green stripes!) And while we’ve long since lost track of all her comings and goings, we’re going to assume she had a Studio 54–themed party in the midst of her talk show appearances and in-car outfit changes, thus justifying the pants.

And finally, Kardashian’s wide-legged trouser situation could be mistaken for a ballgown with the amount of fabric she’s dragging around (literally, just look at that hem!). The selfie star stepped out at The Polo Bar (a.k.a. Ralph Lauren’s impossible-to-get-a-reservation-for restaurant) with friends and the designer himself Wednesday night. She finished off the look with a For Love & Lemons bodysuit and Sophie Theallet coat.

We Were Right All Along: The Secret to Blake Lively's Hair Really Does Require a Magician!

There’s nothing quite like our love affair with Blake Lively’s hair. So when The Age of Adaline star debuted more than 10 looks in one single day — complete with multiple hair switch-ups — we were sure she must have had an army of hairstylists tag-teaming her locks throughout the day. Nope!

In this week’s issue of PEOPLE, Lively reveals there was only one “magician” behind her whirlwind transformations — her longtime mane man Rod Ortega. For obvious reasons, we reached out to the pro to learn the secrets behind his magic (hair) tricks.

Ida Mae Astute/ABC

If you’re wondering exactly how he had enough time to do an updated do for every outfit, the answer is, well, he didn’t. “Everything was really quick,” says Ortega. “We didn’t have time to sit there and re-curl, re-set, hairspray. It was, ‘Okay, do it!'” Still, he managed to put a few of the styles together in as little as five minutes.

Another big challenge? Ortega didn’t see any of her clothing before it was go-time that morning. He depended only on his encyclopedic knowledge of retro hairstyles (he also keeps an iPad on-hand full of inspiration). “I am constantly researching what [people] wore in the 1920s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s,” he says. “It helps me when I have to think very quickly on the spot.”

Blake Lively HairstyleGetty

As far as styling itself goes, Ortega credits his Nimbus 2000-like speed to his “very collaborative” relationship with Lively and his ability to create gorgeous hairstyles in unconventional places. “I’ve done hair everywhere: in a closet, on a plane. It’s just from practice,” he explains. He essentially set up a mini salon in Lively’s car in order to re-style her hair between appearances.

“I have a canvas J.Crew bag, it’s my go-to because it lays flat, so you can lay out hot [tools] and combs,” he says, revealing how he set up his workspace in the car. (Cordless butane irons are a must too, because they can “click on” in a pinch.) He also used his T3 Wand and L’Oréal Paris’s Elnett hairspray to get her hair “full and thick.”

Okay, so it’s not quite like Lively had a glam squad of magical creatures à la Snow White, but the big reveal behind Ortega’s tricks is still pretty spectacular, no?

Blake Lively Called In More Than 200 Looks For Her Press Tour - Then Tried Them All on Her Sister Before Picking Her Top 20!

Just last week, our motto was “another hour, another Blake Lively outfit.” Now it’s been six days, and. .. nothing. Silence on the Blake Lively fashion front. Considering that she changed nearly a dozen times on Tuesday alone, we think she earned well-deserved break from playing dress-up. But that didn’t stop us from asking her how she pulled off more than 15 outfits in 72 hours without a stylist (while juggling parenting a 4-month-old) — and we’ve got the scoop in this week’s PEOPLE.

Blake Lively Age of AdalineLuis Yllanes/Splash News Online

“Once upon a time, this was supposed to be a two-week press trip,” Lively tells PEOPLE of her whirlwind week promoting The Age of Adaline. “But then life happened, and I had a baby, and suddenly I needed to condense two weeks of promotional appearances into two days. Seriously: two days. So I changed the timeline, just not the wardrobe.” Just to break that down, she kicked off the week with two outfit changes Sunday, wore 11 outfits on Wednesday (and changed seven times in only five hours) and then three on Thursday. Her formal appearances were mostly done by Friday, when she wore just three much more casual looks. (And all of her outfits had one very serious force of nature to contend with: a breastfeeding mama.)

Blake LivelyMichael Simon/StartraksPhoto(2); FameFlynet; Splash News Online

Basically, it took two months for her to put together her ensembles (which ended up totaling more than $10 million — and that’s in jewelry alone). “I started planning for this back in February. I selected easily over 500 looks from Style.com, various runways and even some past collections. I wound up calling in 256 outfits,” she reveals. “If I had a stylist I’d just book one whole day of fittings, but instead I had to cram it in wherever I could. And in the end, I couldn’t even do all of it.”

So she turned to her sister Robyn Lively, 43, for help. “My sister is the same size as I am, so I said to her: ‘Okay, you’re my fit model now! You try on half, and I’ll try on half! Go!’ If it looked good on her, I just assumed it would look good on me. So some of the stuff I’d never even really tried on myself!”

This Is Why Blake Lively Wasn't at the Met Gala

There was so much star-studded fashion action at the Met Gala (Beyoncé’s sheer dress! Kim Kardashian’s sexy back action! Jennifer Lopez’s dragon!), but one person was noticeably missing: Met vet and Vogue darling Blake Lively. After her whirlwind Age of Adaline style parade, we were really excited to see what mega gown the actress saved for the annual fête. But she never hit the carpet. (Long sigh.)

So why was Lively missing? She’s globetrotting for work.

“Blake RSVP’d to Vogue a month ago and said she couldn’t make it,” her rep tells PEOPLE. “She is shooting back-to-back movies in China and Bangkok.”

An image surfaced Monday of Blake in N.Y.C. promoting Age of Adaline, which got us excited that she might show up at the gala. It turns out, the photos are from an earlier appearance. But we couldn’t help but notice that she pulled a re-wear — a very rare occurrence for the stylish star. Lively showed two different ways of styling a Lindsey Thornburg floral top, which is available on her website Preserve.

The trendsetter wore it as a set with the matching skirt while promoting Age of Adaline, but she also sported the tie-front topper with a pair of high-waisted jeans and ankle booties for a more daytime look (and one of the best #OOTD photos we’ve see on Instagram).

RELATED PHOTOS: Every gorgeous look from Blake Lively’s Age of Adaline tour!

Religious Blake style spotters know that the designer is a new favorite for the star — she wore two different dresses by the label on her 72-hour fashion-packed promo tour, for which she called in more than 200 looks.

“Once upon a time, this was supposed to be a two-week press trip,” Lively told PEOPLE. “But then life happened, and I had a baby, and suddenly I needed to condense two weeks of promotional appearances into two days. Seriously: two days. So I changed the timeline, just not the wardrobe.”

The star, who said she uses her sister Robyn as a fit model, also curates all her own looks.

“I started planning for this back in February. I selected easily over 500 looks from Style.com, various runways and even some past collections. I wound up calling in 256 outfits,” she shared. “If I had a stylist I’d just book one whole day of fittings, but instead I had to cram it in wherever I could. And in the end, I couldn’t even do all of it.”

Lea Michele Got Bangs (Making Her the Leader of Our Braid Brigade)

It was mere days ago that Lea Michele looked like this. But since the Broadway star knows something about making an entrance, she brought her bangs back in a big way: for the Fox upfronts, where she touted the upcoming Scream Queens. And though we are always delighted by (and want to discuss) any and all hair changes, what we’re really fixated on right now is how everyone’s doing the messy sideswept updo these days.

The star’s fierce, full fringe was impossible to miss (to the point where we thought they might be clip-ins — turns out they’re the real deal, though) but it was her side fishtail that really got us talking. Our fave Hollywood hairstylist Sarah Potempa was enlisted to give Michele her perfect plait. After cutting Michele’s bangs, Potempa used her Beachwaver tool to curl the star’s hair, then pulled it into a high ponytail and braided from outside in (left over middle, right over middle). She mussed it up a bit by pulling pieces throughout, then swept the plait over Michele’s shoulder.

Blake Lively, in Beijing for a screening, had a similar idea, recalling her best-ever fishtail with a super-messy, super-sexy low side braid. And finally, Pitch Perfect 2‘s Hailee Steinfeld stopped by to chat with Jimmy Kimmel wearing an undone side do that seemed to have started its life as a braid (see: the twisted parts at the top) and ended as a tousled, wavy mass that you could easily replicate after a beach day.

We already know that Blake Lively is a fantastic baker, lifestyle guru and has more style stamina than anyone on the planet. Now she’s adding “fashion designer” to her growing realm of entrepreneurial expertise.  She may claim she can’t “draw worth a lick,” but we think she should let her designs speak for themselves! Find out all about her new stylish endeavor.

Blake LivelyCourtesy Blake Lively

Usually when we see Lively post a cute Instagram photo wearing, well, anything, there’s a good chance she’s showing off a design for sale on her lifestyle site, Preserve. So when we spotted her in a white tied top with pink skirt (below), nothing seemed out of the ordinary… until we took our eyes off the adorable outfit and read the caption: “I may not be able to draw worth a lick, but I am proud of this dress I co-designed with Amour Vert for @preserve_us You better send me pics if you buy it! I want to share your photos!! #PRSRV so I see it 💕👗💕 ”

She teamed up with the eco-conscious brand, Amour Vert, for a 12-piece capsule collection to be sold exclusively on Preserve. Currently, just two styles are available on the site now for pre-order, shipping June 5. Aside from the champagne frock (above), there’s the fern dress, which Lively also sported. More designs will be unveiled next week, including tees that give back: Amour Vert and non-profit American Forests will plant a tree for each shirt sold.

Today Lively also revealed another partnership on Instagram to unveil the Natalie jumpsuit and Elisa dress. “I co-designed this collection too with the trusty Sam & Lavi,” she captioned the pic. “I’m just boasting now because you guys fluffed me so much on the last post. Beware: don’t feed the ducks flattery. It dangerously swells their ego. And tummies apparently. Someone pass the spanx.”

Reese Witherspoon Isn't Just Wearing Draper James - She's Making it Too!

A common complaint when it comes to celebrity clothing lines is, well, the celeb in question is rarely seen actually wearing said clothing line. (We’re not naming names, but PEOPLE readers sure have.) Reese Witherspoon is determined not to be the recipient of such complaints. Not only is she sporting her Draper James pieces all over L.A., but she’s parking herself at the sewing machine to see how it’s all made.

Reese Witherspoon Draper JamesCPR/Stoianov/FameFlynet; Bauer-Griffin/GC; Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty

Since the May 5 kickoff of her lifestyle site (named for her maternal grandparents), Witherspoon has been her own best model, sporting the line’s Southern-inspired pieces (lots of florals, checks and brights) nearly every day. From left, she’s wearing the brand’s “Shelby” jacket and “Vanderbilt” tote; toughening up the “Charlotte” top with a leather jacket (both those handbags are hers, too); and wearing the “Memphis” skirt on the red carpet. And if that weren’t enough, Witherspoon is also training herself to make the brand’s upcoming denim — just check out the snap she posted to Instagram, below:

Instagram Photo

Witherspoon isn’t alone in standing behind (or in, as it were) her own designs — Blake Lively wore a number of Preserve designs on her Age of Adaline press tour, and she’s just jumped feet first into the design world as well, creating a collection with Sam & Lavi. (And to prove she too was involved, Preserve posted a similar making-of snap to their Instagram.)
Instagram Photo

And of course, Melissa McCarthy has been wearing her own designs throughout her whole Spy press tour, saying of her design philosophy, ““I just don’t believe in a uniform. I think if people have it and they love it, great, but I think people get into a rut and I’ve always been someone who gets a kick out of dressing.”

Blake Lively Launched Preserve Early Because of Anna Wintour

Blake Lively welcomed two babies in the past year: her daughter James, and her lifestyle website Preserve, the latter of which is about to celebrate its first birthday. But it turns out, Lively wasn’t ready to introduce her brainchild to the world last summer.

Blake Lively and Anna WintourNoam Galai/WireImage

The actress, 27, told Time that Preserve‘s launch was moved forward because of her August 2014 Vogue cover.

“I couldn’t call Anna Wintour and say ‘I need six more months,'” she explained. “People hacked into our site a week and a half before it was meant to launch, so the site leaked. The site’s not close to what I want it to be. I hope by the time it’s what I want it to be, my standards will be raised infinitely more.”

Preserve offers everything from recipes and foodie finds to a wide range of style finds and retail. Blake has even stepped in as a design collaborator with some of her favorite up-and-coming brands.

“I believe I am the Preserve customer,” the stylish star said. “It’s my vision and I’m the one creating, curating, and driving this. If I look to myself first, I’m a woman for whom family is the most important thing in my life. I love stories, I love quality stories. Quality doesn’t come with a number.”

She also cited her love for mixing high-and-low priced pieces in her wardrobe.

“I’ll wear a fancy designer coat or handbag, but with a Forever 21 shirt,” she shared. “I love to — you’ll think this is a plug for the site, but I love to preserve things that are old and give them new life. ‘Is this Chanel?’ ‘No, Forever 21, on sale for $3!’ But you pair it with something you had to save up for… or something you shouldn’t have bought and you tear up the receipt so your husband won’t see it.”

Blake Lively Isn't a Blonde Anymore! See Her New Hue (If You Might Hyperventilate, Get a Paper Bag Ready)

Hear ye! Hear ye! The goddess of golden manes, the queen of flaxen French braids, our favorite fair-haired star Blake Lively is no longer a blonde. Let us say that again: Blake Lively. Isn’t. A. Blonde. Anymore.

Blake Lively bronde hairIda Mae Astute/ABC/Getty; Courtesy Blake Lively

In a photo of herself sporting casual wear and Tevas on a beautiful hanging bridge, the actress wrote on Instagram, “…Brondes have more fun #NoTypos-IKnowIThinkItsCrazyToo.” For those of you who don’t know, this “bronde” she speaks of is a flattering blended shade of “brunette” and “blonde.”

But we’re big girls here at PEOPLE! It’s only been two hours since Blake’s post and we’ve already made it to the final stage of grief in mourning the loss of her blonde hair: Acceptance. It happened. Still, that doesn’t mean we can’t still feel a little sad.

Instagram Photo

She teased us with potential new hues back in 2011, when she stepped out as a redhead at the Time 100 Gala. (She’s said it was for a movie called Hick, which might be a great addition to our Blake Lively film hair retrospective this weekend.)

At the time, she was promoting Green Lantern with her then-costar, now-hubby Ryan Reynolds, and though she was a brunette in the film, she toned it down a little bit for the red carpets. “Ryan named my hair color ‘Sierra sunset,’ which I like,” she said on the red carpet. No word on what he’s named this new look, so we’ll accept suggestions in the comments.

Heidi Klum Gets Choppy Layers, Blake Lively Really Loves Her 'Bronde' and Other Important Hair Updates

Have the urge to change up your hair this summer? These stars might be the inspiration you need to get to the salon. Heidi Klum tried out some piecey layers, Lily Collins added extensions and Blake Lively‘s “bronde” is still going strong.

Heidi KlumCourtesy Heidi Klum

Don’t worry, Klum didn’t do anything drastic like dye her hair pink, but she did give her hair a more beachy vibe by adding some short, choppy layers during a visit to her stylist, Wendy Iles, Wednesday. She shared a snap of the finished product and judging by her smile, she’s clearly loving it!

Instagram Photo

Over the past year, Lily Collins has gone from shoulder-length lob to chin-length bob to rocker chic pixie, and now she’s back to where she started with long wavy tresses. The actress debuted her longer strands on Instagram with a pun-tastic caption, “A little extension goes a long way. Weaving my way around LA #wednesdayweave #onedayinnextdayout #whynotplayaround?” And she loved her new faux hair so much she shared another selfie before bed.

And finally, Lively wanted to share with the world the “perks of breastfeeding” with a closely-cropped bikini top selfie feeding her daughter, James. Perks of which include getting pieces of rice stuck in her hair, which she pointed out with the helpful hashtag, #YesThatsRiceInMyHair. She’s on set of her latest film, All I See Is You in Bangkok with her newly dyed shade of “bronde” still going strong. She debuted her originally-named color last week with the caption, “Brondes have more fun.” Okay, so we admit we miss blonde Blake, but her bronde hashtag game is so hilarious (#BlondevsBronde #BrondeJamesBronde) she needs to keep the Instas coming.

5 Things We Learned from Ashley Tisdale About Her New Site, "The Haute Mess"

$

There’s a new celeb lifestyle guru in town, and it’s … Ashley Tisdale! She launched her blog “The Haute Mess” earlier this month, and as the title implies, she’s determined to point out that this is not a blog that emphasizes the ideal life. “There are so many blogs where it’s like teaching you how to do the perfect braid and teaching you just the perfect outfit, looking good all the time,” she explains to PEOPLE. “Realistically that just does not happen, and I wanted to embrace that. I have always felt in every stage of my life — whether I was single, or now that I’m married — there are still times when I’m like, ‘Ugh, I’m such a hot mess right now!’ ”

Ashey Tisdale The Haute MessElias Tahan

In case you’re like us and kind of couldn’t believe that Ashley’s imperfections are anything besides artfully tousled, remember that she gets photographed doing just about everything, and it’s not always cute. “Recently I was taking my dog for a walk and in a little summer dress and I was picking up Maui’s, you know, s–t, and I’m bending over and my dress is just coming down and stuff; I had no idea someone was taking pictures,” she says. “But when I saw the image pop up on my Twitter I was like ‘Oh my God.’ That pretty much keeps me grounded. Picking up my dog’s s–t. ” That should do it! Here are 5 things Tisdale taught us about the new site:

Ashley Tisdale The Haute MessElias Tahan

She’s learning from the experts, so she’s not always the expert herself.  So stay tuned for tutorials in which Tisdale is both the student and the teacher. “I just took Mario Dedivanovic’s master class. [Editor’s note: He’s the Kardashian makeup artist extraordinaire!] I sat there for 4 hours watching him do Kim Kardashian’s makeup,” she says. “He did my makeup for the Tonys and he did my makeup for the whole press week of Clipped, and I kept on asking, ‘How do you do that? I took, like, four pages of notes and I’ll be doing a blog post on it soon. I love the idea of learning from him and being able to do it myself, it’s so much fun.”

She crowdsourced for her contributors. Tisdale calls her venture an “editorial community — it’s not just me blogging,” she says. “About a week and a half before we launched, we just sent out an Instagram asking for contributors for content and we got like, thousands and thousands of emails. It was lot of fans — and then we just started to go through and see who the real blogs were, and we narrowed it down to 25.” She’s already learning from them: “I like to try out a lot of the food stuff just because I’m good in the kitchen, but I’m not amazing … There’s a Dutch pancake I’m going to try this weekend.”

As an editor, she prefers her writers to have a specific voice. “It’s really about not taking yourself too seriously. I’m someone who loves to laugh at myself.  I love women who are kind of able to be free and be themselves and laugh at themselves, and also have that edginess of like ‘Oh, eff it!’ ”

She has an unorthodox office: the great outdoors. “I’m somebody that gets inspired on hikes — it clears my mind a lot; I have so much going on in my life,” she says. “It’s kind of hard to sit down and just focus and write, but when I’m on a hike I just get inspired and that’s actually where I do most of the writing. I actually put out an open letter to my fans on my 30th birthday and that came from me just hiking. I’ll come up with the idea for a blog post, I’ll start it there and finish it at home.”

And of course, like Blake and Gwyneth before her, she shops her own site. “I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but the site just makes me feel like I have an excuse to shop more,” she says, explaining that she shops primarily online anyway. But what did she pick up? “There were a couple of Urban Outfitters things that I hadn’t seen — this long, white, almost like a top but also it looked like a dress — it was so cute. And then there was this really cool journal that was black with a gold heart.”

7 Times Blake Lively's Hair Left Us Speechless, in Honor of Her Birthday

It’s Blake Lively‘s 28th birthday! How are we celebrating? For starters, we’ll be refreshing her Instagram feed all day in hopes that she posts a photo from her “Blakery” or maybe an #OOTD birthday shot.

But while we wait, we’re looking back at some of her most memorable mane moments. (After all, her hair is the Holy Grail of Hollywood hair.)

Blake Lively HairGetty

Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director: I’m no Internet historian, but I’m fairly certain this braid (worn to the L.A. premiere of Green Lantern in 2011) was the reason Pinterest was invented. The messy, mermaid-y plait, adorned with a gold and diamond floral accessory, can be found on countless hair inspiration boards, whether it’s a bride who wants a boho-chic look on her big day or a beauty editor, who no matter how much texturizing spray she uses, can’t seem to recreate Lively’s tousled look (but I won’t ever stop trying!).

Blake Lively HairGetty

Alex Apatoff, Senior Style Editor: This style, to me, is the epitome of “You’ll never have hair as good as Blake’s” — and I’m not even mad. The teeny braids and tousled locks give it a haphazard, just-rolled-out-of-bed-and-I-still-look-amazing vibe, but a second glance reveals that those waves are perfectly smooth, the braids elegantly executed and — oh yeah — you’ll never look as good in orange as she does. Happy birthday, Blake, you hair sorceress.

Blake Lively HairGetty

Lindy Segal, Style Social Editor: If Blake Lively is going to be in the same room as Duchess Catherine (which she was at the 2011 BAFTA Brits To Watch Event in L.A.), you better believe she’s going to have princess-worthy hair. Her braided updo was just a touch boho, and the gorgeous rose-inspired bun was unlike any hairstyle we’ve ever seen on Blake–or anyone else, for that matter.

Blake Lively HairGetty

Sarah Kinonen, Style & Beauty Editorial Assistant: When it comes to hair, I’m a no-fuss kind of girl. I air-dry my hair in the summer and usually just pull it back in a pony on most days. So like, I said, no fuss. Which is why this messy plait Blake wore to a Tiffany & Co. event in 2010 just speaks to me. It’s classic Blake: effortless with a whole lot of glam. (Seriously, how does she make a tousled braided mess look so chic?) If I had longer locks, I’m certain I’d pull my hair back like this every day.

Lindsay Schallon, Senior Style Editor: Be honest, you totally forgot Blake was a redhead for a hot minute in 2011, didn’t you? Only a blip on the radar in her incredible hair history, she went this “Ariel” red for her role in Hick — only keeping it long enough to make it through filming (and to leave beauty bloggers everywhere slack-jawed), then it was back to her signature Serena blonde. No way S would have had any other color.

Blake Lively HairGetty

Catherine Kast, Style Editor: Blake has mastered the red carpet art of dressing completely appropriately for the occasion– she’s never overdone and never under-dressed. This pale blue Chanel Couture has so much going on (sparkles, a cinched waist and a dramatic billowy scarf) that it called for nothing more and nothing less than what Blake provided with her effortless waves. The natural wind off the water in Cannes probably helped with the worn-in vibe she’s got going on, too. Don’t tell me that this isn’t enough of a “look” to warrant obsession, because I guarantee that if your average girl tried to make this happen on a regular day, it would be damn near impossible to achieve. Trust me, I’ve tried.

Brittany Talarico, Style News Editor: Blake’s plait is so epic in this photo, it has to be revered from all angles. Last year, the actress kicked off the Cannes Film Festival at the Grace of Monaco premiere in a oxblood chiffon Gucci dress featuring a thigh-high slit and open back detailing. But it was that braid which managed to captivate all of my attention. Slick pony in the front, messy, textured plait in the back and 100% magic all around.

She’s too young to realize it, but James Reynolds (Blake Lively and Ryan Reynold’s 9-month-old daughter) is going to inherit the BEST clothes from her fashionable mom. And Lively will most definitely pass down the new baby bag she just designed for Preserve in honor of her first child.

Lively recently added “fashion designer” to her résumé, unveiling pieces she co-designed for her lifestyle website early this summer. And now she’s taking her “limited drawing skills” to the accessories department, working with Sandast for a baby bag named after first child, James.

The “James Bag” comes in a sleek cognac shade and is made from premium leather. Interested? It will set you back $860.

Afterall, it seems the least Lively could do — baby James’ first words were “mama.”

And maybe next year James will follow in North West’s artistic footsteps, and finger paint a Hermès handbag for her mom.

The L’Oréal squad isn’t the only big campaign news. Cara Delevingne has reprised her role in front of the camera, for a great cause.

The supermodel was tapped by British designer Stella McCartney to be the face of a special pink lacy lingerie set, created in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the Linda McCartney Centre in the U.K., the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the National Breast Cancer Foundation in Australia.

Delevingne follows industry vet Kate Moss, who was the face of the limited-edition lingerie set last year.

Who Are the Top Red Carpet Designers? (See How Many You Can Guess!)

We all have our own laundry list of favorite red carpet dresses from this year’s award season (Emma Stone‘s chartreuse Elie Saab’s creation, Naomi Wattsshimmery Tom Ford column and Kerry Washington‘s metallic Marc Jacobs number, to name a few). But The Hollywood Reporter took it a step further, rounding up the most heavy-hitting designers on the red carpet (as well as their celeb muses) for the mag’s second annual Top 25 Red Carpet Designers issue. Below, Michael Kors, Zac Posen, Alexander Wang and more industry favorites open up about the rules of red carpet dressing — and the lovely ladies they’ve dressed.

the hollywood reporter top 25 red carpet designersDiego Uchitel

Kors, who considers stars like Blake Lively, Kate Hudson and Emily Blunt to be his muses, opened up to the mag about his No. 1 red carpet rule, which is to make sure his clients feel comfortable and confident in his creations. “The dress should make the woman feel like her best self,” he said. “You want it to fit well, complement her style and show off her personality all while looking glamorous and chic. And of course, it should look great from every angle.”

Lively gets those things right all the time, Kors says: “Even in the most glamorous dress, Blake still looks at ease, which I think is the trick to looking terrific.”

“There is an effortlessness to the elegance of all of Michael’s clothes,” Lively said of the designer. “His brand of glamour seems attainable. Everything he does is really warm and inviting, just like he is — very inviting.”

the hollywood reporter top 25 red carpet designersMiller Mobley

Wang, who just ended his tenure at Balenciaga, counts Nicole Kidman as one of the French fashion house’s muses. “Nicole brings poise and grace to everything she wears, even if it’s a T-shirt and jeans,” the designer said of the star. “She’s able to transform clothes and the way you perceive them. That’s true style.”

Going forward, Wang will concentrate on his own line — and if Taraji P. Henson’s custom Emmys gown is any indication, he’ll be taking red carpet eveningwear in an edgier direction.

Posen cites Katie Holmes as his red carpet muse (and close friend), saying her energy is what draws him to her. “When I first saw Katie and her rapport on a red carpet, I saw that magic,” the designer said. “Some people are just born with star quality — she comes alive on the red carpet and you can feel this.”

And his most memorable moment with the star? A high-fashion date night to this year’s Met Gala. “I loved going to the Met Ball with Katie [wearing] my deep blue gown, and I love the pleated pink dress she wore to the premiere of The Giver.”

His No. 1 rule for the red carpet is similar to Kors’s mantra: fit is king. “Color always works, but above all is how it all fits on the celebrity — on the carpet you see the garment at 360°,” he said. “When building the dress, it starts with draping fabric, having in mind the woman whom you are designing for. The shape gets reworked in my atelier, and from there, it’s about details: placement of seams, stitches and body architecture. It’s a true collaboration with the celebrity.”

the hollywood reporter top 25 red carpet designersMary Rozzi

And lastly, the creative duo behind Valentino, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, open about about their long list of celebrity favorites, including Ms. Goop herself, Gwyneth Paltrow.

“We are very honored to see our dresses worn by so many actresses because it reveals facets of their personality,” Chiuri told the mag. “Keira Knightley, Tilda Swinton, the Italian actress Alba Rohrwacher are a constant source of inspiration in our work, as is Gwyneth Paltrow.”

But even with all of the label’s success, the pair will never forget the exact moment when it all began. “The first red carpet is the most unforgettable one: Chloe Sevigny wearing Valentino at the Golden Globes in 2010,” Piccioli said.

Blake Lively Is Closing Preserve: 'It's Not Making a Difference in People's Lives'

$

Blake Lively has succeeded at so many things in life — handsome husband, beautiful baby, fabulous career, terrific at baking, fashion designing and having great hair — that you might think she never faces challenges. But she’s got a tough one on her plate now: She’s taking a step back from her Preserve ecommerce website, saying that it was never quite what she wanted it to be.

Earlier, Lively had said that she launched the site earlier than she’d intended to coincide with last year’s August Vogue cover, and she doubles down on that in her explanation about why Preserve is shuttering.

“We have an incredible team of people who do beautiful work, but we launched the site before it was ready, and it never caught up to its original mission: It’s not making a difference in people’s lives, whether superficially or in a meaningful way,” she said in an interview on Vogue.com. “And that’s the whole reason I started this company, not just to fluff myself, like, ‘I’m a celebrity! People will care what I have to say!’ It was so never meant to be that, and that kind of became the crutch because it was already up and already running, and it’s hard to build a brand when you’re running full steam ahead—how do you catch up?”

Lively says her plan is to rework the site and relaunch to be closer to her original vision. “It’s very exciting and it’s also incredibly scary,” she says. “I never thought I would have the bravery to actually do that, to take the site dark and to say, ‘You know what? I haven’t created something that is as true and impactful as I know it can and will be. And I’m not going to continue to chase my tail and continue to put a product out there that we, as a team, are not proud of.’”

And she also says that she anticipates your mockery (she’s looking at you, Stephen Colbert — who just released a video mocking the many celebrity lifestyle brands out there). “I know what it’ll look like, what I’m facing publicly, that people are just going to have a heyday with this … The only way I can prove all the negative reactions wrong is to come back with a plan that will rock people. And I have that plan.” (The plan involves a lot of Taylor Swift: “I’ve asked my assistant to just play ‘Shake It Off’ on a loop — it feels really good!”)

The site will shut down on Oct. 9 (and there will be plenty of deep discounts before then), and when it comes back, it might not be called Preserve anymore. “I love the name Preserve. But then, I never thought people would think Preserve had something to do with jam! … These are all of the things you don’t think of when you’re too intimate with something.”

A Love Letter to Blake Lively's Soon-to-Shutter Preserve (Plus: Exactly What to Shop Before it Closes!)

Blake LivelyBlake Lively

Dear Preserve and soon-to-be fans of Preserve,

The second the “Extra 50% Off” sale news popped into my inbox yesterday, I composed an online shopping cart of epic proportions. I’m talking more than $800 worth of merch. I could justify everything: dresses for fall weddings (I only have one to go to and it’s in four days … ), flippy minis for casual work days, bold gold earrings to pop on for after-work cocktail parties. I didn’t even need a reason to buy a pair of alphabet-print pink jeans and a one-shoulder butcher’s apron. I even had my 2nd wedding anniversary gift for my hubby in there. Year two is cotton, so there are truly so many options on Preserve for that. Who am I? A respecter of Blake’s taste, that’s who.

I was so excited about all the stuff I could buy that I didn’t even think about the prospect that this gigantic sale was evidence of trouble in Preserve-adise. (Sorry, that was a bad pun, but I feel like Blake would approve? She’s a jokester).

When the news broke this morning that the site is shutting down, I knew I had to hit “checkout” before I missed out on living the Preserve-y life I thought I was going to live; There are an infinite number of picnic parties to host while wearing a midi skirt, after all. So, I streamlined my cart. Just now I got it down to $200, and I couldn’t be happier.

This was what popped up when I completed my purchase: “WE THANK YOU! YOUR PURCHASE WAS CREATED WITH GOOD OLD-FASHIONED QUALITY; A PRINCIPLE ONCE FORGOTTEN, RECLAIMED, AND NOW PRESERVED. WE’LL LET YOU KNOW WHEN IT SHIPS, MAY IT BRING YOU JOY.” It will bring me joy, I’m sure of it.

Friends, let me tell you what’s left to buy:

Blake’s ultra-bold floral? Only $180? Srsly.
Instagram Photo

Her pinafore with the charming torso-triangle cutout? Only 85 frickin’ dollars!
Instagram Photo

Her sassy palm-print jumpsuit? JUST $82!
Instagram Photo

These discounts are nothing when you consider that the adorable salt boxes are $5, and that these artisans are all actually pretty talented and deserve our attention as consumers and livers of life.

Golly, it’s never been so easy to be Blake. Now, make like me and spend all your money, if only because the artists Blake worked hard to promote on the site still deserve to be in business, even if Preserve is not.

xoxo,

Catherine Kast

PS: Blake, if you’re reading this: The fact that no one in my inner circle has started a Kickstarter to get me one of your Lindsey Thornburg cloaks is baffling to me and makes me feel like no one really knows me. Please, put them on sale!

Are you sad Preserve is shutting down? What’s at the top of your shopping cart? Share your thoughts below.

Blake Lively's Ginormous Braid, Cate Blanchett's Punk Look and More Hairstyles You Have to See from the Back

We can always count on Blake Lively, Cate Blanchett, Princess Kate and Rooney Mara for hair inspo. Collectively, they’ve tried every color, cut and style imaginable. And within the last two days, they all took a stab at incredibly intricate, slightly far-out styles that deserve a second glance — specifically from the back. (By the way, we’re daring you to try try out one of the looks this weekend, so take notes!)

Blake LivelyCourtesy Blake Lively

You know those times you’re hiking and feel like an impromptu styling session? Lively understands. When she and hairstylist Rod Ortega were on a 700-foot mountain (according to Ortega’s Instagram) they just followed nature’s course and created this outdoor-inspired (insanely intricate) braid — that could rival even her most memorable braid moment of all time.

And ever the hashtag queen, she prompted the question, “#WhoWoreItBetterBlakeOrTheBush” on Instagram, only to find out moments later — the bush.

Crap. I lost to a branch. @rodortega4hair wins though 🏆 always.

Princess Kate sported a smaller knot this week at the Fostering Excellence Awards in London. She kept her locks in their natural perfect blowout state (check out the front view here), but changed things up a bit with ringlet curls and a half-up interlocking twist.

And finally, the most edgy hairdos come from Carol co-stars Blanchett and Mara. Just last night at a Museum of Modern Art’s Film Benefit in her honor, Blanchett chose a right-off-the-runway Chanel Haute Couture gown (we know, shocker!) and mimicked the high-fashion aesthetic with her beauty look, opting for a punk rock meets ’80s prom slicked-back combover. Somehow only she, in her far-out style universe can make this style acceptable.

And not to be outdone by her co-star, Mara has been trying out her own funky looks, with “chic, folded braids” as her hairstylist Adir Abergel calls it. First at the N.Y.C. premiere of Carol on Monday night and again at Blanchett’s MoMa event on Tuesday.

We want to know: Which hairstyle is your favorite? Are you game for testing them this weekend? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
