Blake Lively Wears the Holy Grail of Braids at Cannes (Plus, See Her Gucci Gown from Every Angle)

Blake Lively Gucci gown Cannes Film FestivalWireImage; Rex USA: WireImage

It’s true: We relish a Blake Lively red carpet cameo. And lucky for us (and all you other Blake style enthusiasts out there), we just got our second “Wow” moment of the month. After making jaws drop in a sequin champagne-hued Gucci Première gown at the Met Gala, the star is at it again in another head-turning design by the label.

Lively kicked off the Cannes Film Festival at the Grace of Monaco premiere in a oxblood chiffon dress featuring a thigh-high slit and open back detailing. (See it in motion at left!) And while it’s no surprise the face of Gucci fragrances is often dressed in their designs, we’re still always mesmerized by how perfectly they fit her. She accessorized with ruby-and-diamond Lorraine Schwartz statement earrings and gold Casadei sandals.

“Lorraine Schwartz made the most amazing earrings ever,” Lively told PEOPLE. “She actually made them for the Met, but we ended up thinking they would look better with this dress so we saved them for Cannes.”

RELATED: See even more can’t-miss Cannes looks!

Probably more captivating than the dress? Her long messy braid. From the front it looks like a basic slicked back pony, but from the back the mega-plait can be studied in all its glory. It’s a really fun formal braid look (though for a daytime style, we love Lively’s fishtail.)

Naturally, the face of L’Oréal Paris had an on-point beauty look as well — an allover bronze glow, heavily-lined smoky eye and nude lips. Really the only thing missing is her hot husband Ryan Reynolds on her arm. What do you think of Lively’s look? Does it top her Met Gala moment? Is she the Queen of Cannes so far? Does Poppy Delevingne's Wedding Dress Look Familiar?

If you’re a firm believer in the “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue” wedding superstition, then this one’s a doozy: British model and personality Poppy Delevingne (sister to supermodel Cara) just tied the knot in London wearing a Chanel dress that fits two of those criteria. The bride looked radiant in a Chanel Couture gown that “borrows” inspiration from look 64 in the spring 2009 collection — an “old” gown that was previously worn by Blake Lively.

The two dresses have tons in common, from the structured bodice with its short sleeves and shorter hemline, to the flowing sheer skirt at the bottom, to the allover floral appliqués. But while Lively’s was more of a bohemian take on the dress (with her braided pony, stacks of bracelets and bronzed glow), Delevingne’s is all bride — she’s got the perfectly coiffed waves, minimal jewels and, oh yeah, the lined skirt, to prove it.

Sister Cara served as maid of honor, recalling another famous British sister act by wearing a flowing cream-colored gown, plus black and white sandals and a topknot. (See a photo below.)

Cannes 2014 Style Awards: The Beauty and Fashion Looks That Stood Out Above the Rest

While the official mission statement for the Cannes Film Festival describes it as an occasion to raise awareness of films that contribute to the development of cinema, we believe that it should be rewritten to, “An event where Hollywood’s finest take fashion risks in plunging gowns, bold lips and noteworthy hairstyles.” (But that’s just our opinion.)

Over the past week we have seen some looks that have left us absolutely envious (Seriously, have you seen Blake Lively lately?) and others that we would be way too timid to try. Take a look below to see which of your favorite celebs earned nods in our beauty and fashion awards for rocking some seriously striking trends.

Cannes Beauty AwardsGetty(2); Wireimage

Boldest Lip: The first award in our beauty category goes to supermodel Coco Rocha (left). While everyone else stuck with a basic red, nude or pink, she opted for a gothic-inspired deep purple to contrast her white Gabriela Cadena column gown. (Take that, Naomi Campbell!)

Biggest Braid: When Blake Lively stepped on the scene on day one of the festival, we didn’t think her enormous plait could be rivaled (see it from all sides here) — but Eva Longoria (center) proved us wrong. The actress showed up to the Foxcatcher premiere with a voluminous fishtail that mirrored her revealing cutout.

Most Enviable Waves ( … and dresses, and husband … ): But Lively did emerge victorious in another hair category. Though tons of Cannes attendees brought the glamour, we ultimately decided that her thick, luxurious waves from the Mr. Turner premiere were the perfect topper for her Chanel Couture iridescent dress.

Cannes Fashion AwardsWireimage(2); Getty

Highest Slit: After a while, we started to lose track of the number of thigh-high slits we saw on the red carpet this week. Though every celeb seemed to want to show off their stems, we noticed one supermodel that ultimately deserved the prize. Adriana Lima’s Alexandre Vauthier Couture bustier dress (left) took the trend to new heights with an opening that rivals Angelina Jolie’s 2012 Oscars dress.

Maximum Number of Embellishments: We were mesmerized not only by the many colors on Marion Cotillard’s Maison Martin Margiela Couture mini (center), but also by the sheer number of beads, gems and other bric-a-brac it took to make this piece (we’re not going to start counting, but we can guess the total is well into the thousands).

Biggest “YAAAAS” Moment: The second one editor saw Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s look (right), she sent it to the rest of the team with the subject line, “Dead.” All eyes were on the model as she walked down the red carpet in her strapless Gucci Première gown with perfect free-flowing tresses and flawless makeup.

Regular Overalls Not Dressy Enough For You? Try Celeb-Loved Black Denim Overalls Instead!

stars in black overallsStartraks; Splash News Online (2); Ramey

You’ve known about the return of overalls for a while now. You’ve seen them on noteworthy women as varied as Keira Knightley, Selena Gomez and Cressida Bonas. And maybe you’ve even embraced the trend, buying a pair for yourself and wearing them to music festivals and for weekend lounging. But now you realize that they just aren’t fancy enough for occasions like date night, high-end shopping and work. What’s a onesie-loving gal to do?

RELATED PHOTOS: See (and vote on!) even more bold star styles in Obsessed or Hot Mess!

Well, you could embrace the latest celebrity trend: black overalls. Like black jeans, these are the slightly dressier version of your favorite denim, fancy enough to wear to many offices and sassy enough for a night out. From left, Blake Lively wears the most polished version of the look, adding shiny patent brogues and a chic bag to her tailored pair. Kate Bosworth wore her Hudson Denim pair out on a date night (granted, it was a hockey game) with Robert Clergerie platform sandals, pink lipstick and a Dolce & Gabbana bag for a feminine twist. Gwen Stefani went slightly edgier by wearing her Paige overalls top-down (her new favorite look), but added stylish pieces like yellow loafers, a navy shell and cat-eye sunnies. And finally, Rumer Willis went most funky of all in a plunging tee and grungy boots.

PEOPLE StyleWatch editors are still split on this trend, but there’s no denying that the style in black has a certain je ne sais quoi. Have you already given overalls a shot? Do you prefer them in this dark wash? Tell us in the comments!

Blake Lively Wins This Week's Best Dressed Title With a Look Straight Out of 1968

It’s time to talk about some very important medical conditions we are currently experiencing. The technical terms (according to doctors) are “Blake Lively Hair Envy” and “Blake Lively Leg Envy” (can we also add “Blake Lively Husband Envy” to the list?). And if this week’s Most Loved Looks competition is any indication, many of you are suffering from it as well.

Blake Lively Michael KorsMike Coppola/Getty

While the CFDA Awards were full of bold fashion risks like capri jumpsuits and so much skin we had to break out our Photoshop censors, Blake had all eyes on her in a ’60s-inspired ensemble that earned her a 94% approval rating from readers.

RELATED PHOTOS: See who else made the list this week!

The star’s Michael Kors mini — an olive-green dress with pale-pink embellishments — probably didn’t sound great on paper. But when she stepped out on the red carpet, the scallop-hemmed mini took on a shimmery gold look, and everything made perfect sense. Her accessories only added to the throwback feel: a stack of bangles that probably weighed down her entire arm, salmon Casadei pumps and a coordinating headband (think she swiped it from Blair Waldorf?) to hold back her perfect waves.

Other favorites included essentially every star at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in Jersey City, N.J. From Lupita Nyong’o and Dakota Johnson’s black-and-white looks to Helen Mirren and Olivia Munn’s lace ensembles, readers were loving the summer-appropriate dresses (as were we!).

Tell us: Which star was your personal pick for the title? And are you also suffering from any Blake Lively-related medical conditions?

Blake Lively's 'Preserve:' She Gives a Hint About the Name (and Gushes About Husband Ryan Reynolds)

$

0

We have so many questions about Blake Lively‘s soon-to-launch “curated lifestyle” site, Preserve, including: What will she feature? Will she be writing about her happy home life? And really, what on earth does “Preserve” even mean? She’s keeping most of the answers close to the vest (for now), but in her Vogue cover story, she gives a clue as to where she might have found the name for her site — and it’s a sweet anecdote from her wedding to Ryan Reynolds.

Blake Lively VogueCourtesy of Vogue/Mario Testino

It all dates back to their super-secret Charleston, S.C. nuptials, where she had a mishap with the sparklers that were glittering while Florence Welch sang. “I look down and my wedding dress has a big burn mark from one of the sparklers. Right on the front! And it was just so heartbreaking to me,” she says. “And later, my dress was hanging up and Ryan said, ‘Isn’t that beautiful?’ I said, ‘What?’ And he pointed to the burn. My heart just stopped, because it was such a sensitive little subject. And he said, ‘You’ll always remember that moment with Florence singing and the sparklers. You have that forever, right there, preserved.’ Now that’s my favorite part of the dress.”

She’s going with that same vibe — beautiful with a little bit of an imperfect edge — to create the content for her upcoming site. So rather than an unattainably perfect feel à la Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop, Lively aims to show the world things that are beautiful for their flaws. “[I'm] not trying to show you the perfect life or the aspirational life. It’s real life,” she says. “It’s the thing that blindsides you on an idle Tuesday that’s tragic but that also makes you who you are. It’s not about me. And it’s not about watching my journey of learning how-to, it’s about me sharing that with you so we all sort of learn together.”

RELATED PHOTOS: See more star style in Last Night’s Look!

That’s not to say she’s not expecting Goop-level backlash. “I’m sure there will be plenty of people who will say horrible things … But you can’t worry about it … You just have to do what makes you happy, because you’ll never get a unanimous vote,” she says. “People … don’t bond over complimenting famous people. I’m always the first person to defend Gwyneth Paltrow. Or any woman in a position of power, like Martha Stewart or Oprah, who gets burned. Because they have paved the path for so many other women who are doing something they believe in.”

Blake Lively VogueCourtesy of Vogue/Mario Testino

Since Reynolds inspired the name of the site, can we expect long think pieces and street style shots from him? Not exactly — but you’ll see his DNA throughout. “He’s a part of it because everything we do in life we do together,” she says. “Picking out a coffee table. What we’re going to eat. He’s a beautiful writer — he’s written a lot of stuff for us. And he’s got a great barometer and he knows me, so he will tell me if it’s not as good as it can be.”

And even the notoriously private Lively can’t help but gush over her handsome husband in the pages of Vogue. “He’s going to be a great father and leader and patriarch—he’s so meant to be all of those things. The fact that he lived so much before we got together, he’s the exact realized person that he should be. And so I get to share my life with the person he’s become, and we get to grow from there.”

Blake Lively 'Preserves' Our Interest With Her Cupcake-Decorating Talent, Shade-Throwing Skills & More

Blake Lively is hungry. And not just for enchiladas or experience. She’s also hungry for a cupcake that she doesn’t get to eat thanks to a window-entering, baked-goods-stealing home décor enthusiast … well, it will all make sense when you watch her “73 Questions” video with Vogue, below.

The actress (and newly minted lifestyle blogger) deflects some of the criticism of her new internet venture, Preserve, with a full-fledged charm offensive in the video. From kicking off her barely worn “Everlasting Gobstopper” Louboutins upon entering the apartment to discussing the sweetest gifts she and her husband (that would be Ryan Reynolds) have ever exchanged, she’s all sunlight and smiles.

RELATED PHOTOS: Last Night’s Look: Love It or Leave It?

That’s not to say she’s above the snark. When asked about her ideal Starbucks order, Lively wonders, “Do people go to Starbucks these days?” But ultimately she’s got a good sense of humor (her dream duet partner: “An unplugged microphone”), a really cute outfit (one of our editors is ready to track her down and find out where she got that dress) and some amazing hair (which she admits she recently cut shorter on one side of her head: “very unfortunate”).

We won’t give too much away — you’ve got to watch if only to see her embellish a cupcake with floral icing patterns — but suffice it to say that this video both completely explains Preserve and makes it that much more inscrutable to us at the same time.

Are you loving Lively? How are you feeling about her new website? Let us know below.

Is This Blake Lively's Wedding Dress? See the GIF and Decide for Yourself

We can spend hours trying to decode everything on Blake Lively‘s new website, Preserve. (Okay, we probably have spent hours, there’s a lot to process.) You can tell the newly crowned lifestyle blogger and her team have put tons of thought and detail into every aspect of the venture. Today’s topic? The cryptic welcome video that appears on the homepage, which is meant to embody the homegrown “Main Street USA” mentality Preserve is trying to foster. And in the cryptic two-minute clip, we think we found something huge: A glimpse of Lively dancing around in — wait for it — her wedding dress!

And by glimpse we mean, blink and you’ll definitely miss it. So we had to make a gif of the exact moment we’re talking about. It happens at the 1:31 mark, where a blissful Lively is frolicking in a formal beaded gown (her Marchesa confection featured “illusion crystal beading on the shoulders and rose-gold embroidery” …) on what looks like a shore amid floating paper lanterns, a detail the couple had at their 2012 nuptials. (Lively’s pal Beyoncé did a similar split-second wedding gown reveal in her 2011 video “I Was Here.”)

Blake Lively Wedding DressCourtesy Preserve

Below, we snapped a screenshot for reference, but the gif is way more fun. And while it hasn’t been confirmed this is from her wedding or that it’s even the actress, we’d bet you a set of light-up Thought Bubbles that it is.

Blake Lively Wedding DressCourtesy Preserve

The lantern scene isn’t the only Lively cameo in the mysterious (and, we’ll say it, borderline creepy) introductory film. We also catch a glimpse of her amazing hair and ring at the 41-second mark as she leaves a shop with a cookbook, plus, we spot who we think is Reynolds kissing a painter (?) at the 43-second mark. There’s also a girl proudly flashing her engagement ring at the 1:25 mark. Some speculate this to be Lively, but her hair looks a bit too dark and the ring a bit too heart-shaped, in our opinion, anyway. (P.S. Did we tell you that we were really devoting a lot of thought to this, or what?)

As she continues to promote her new lifestyle site, Lively has been slowly revealing more details about her closely guarded Charleston, S.C., wedding to Reynolds — including that her bestie Florence Welch performed while sparklers were being held by guests, which ended up giving a hint to the name of her site.

“I look down and my wedding dress has a big burn mark from one of the sparklers. Right on the front! And it was just so heartbreaking to me,” she told Vogue.

We’re curious to see how much more of Lively’s personal life is revealed through her new company. What do you think of the Preserve welcome video? Do you think that’s Lively’s wedding? Are you buying all the jam and pickles on the site? As always, share your thoughts, feelings and concerns below.

Aldridge may weigh in on the list in the video, but her definition of sexy is a lot simpler than great legs or a beachy summer glow: It’s “happiness,” she tells PEOPLE.

And what could make her happier than a date night with her husband, rocker Caleb Followill? When they hit the town, you’ll see her in “a nice tank top, black skinny jeans and sexy heels,” she says of her go-to date night look.

The face of Gucci Première fragrances (who gives PEOPLE an exclusive peek at the Eau de Toilette launch in this week’s issue) dished about what perfume means to her in an Q&A with us (and in the video below). “Fragrance is a big part of one’s identity. It’s one of the very few things I do every day, is put on fragrance,” she says. “If I’m not wearing makeup, if my hair’s not done, if I’m walking around in pajamas, I still have fragrance on. You know, I brush my teeth, I put on my perfume.”

Makes perfect sense for the star, who says “glamour is a state of mind.” And though she is often spotted looking like the textbook definition of glamour at events like Cannes, Lively tells PEOPLE that her aesthetic will change day to day. “Every day it’s different … I love the history and story of fashion so I love dressing in different decades,” she says. “I think the best thing to do on the red carpet is just whatever makes you feel the most comfortable and the most confident. Everyone has their own version of that.”

It’s time for our annual Best Dressed of 2014 reveal and the list definitely caused a few heated debates among editors. But in the end, we all agreed that these 11 ladies (yes, there was a tie this year!) nailed it when it came to their red carpet style. And we have a ton of photos to prove it. So who nabbed the top spot?

She also happens to be a street style queen, who recently released a smash hit that we can’t get out of our heads no matter how hard we try. If you guessed Taylor Swift, you’re right. Swift leads a pack of super-stylish ladies this year. You’re going to want to pick up the new issue of PEOPLE (on stands everywhere Friday) for a whole rundown of why she took the top spot, but for now, let’s also look at the rest of the ladies.

Blake Lively Dishes on Her Favorite Look of All Time, What Style She Can't Pull Off (Seriously!) and More

$

Blake Lively has made headlines this year for her expanding lifestyle empire, Preserve, and has fashioned herself as kind of a humble foodie (yep, she made pal Beyoncé a “bee” birthday cake and hangs with Martha Stewart), but after chatting with the 27-year-old actress about her spot on our Best Dressed list, it’s clear that the field she’s an expert in is fashion.

“It’s such a passion of mine,” she tells PEOPLE. “That’s the reason I don’t have a stylist, not because I think I can do it better than any of these people, but because I just love it so much that it would be like handing over something.” And leave it to Lively to meld two of her favorite worlds: cuisine and couture. “It would be like making a cake and then handing it off to someone else to ice and decorate,” she explains. “Why would you do that?”

Working sans stylist truly lets Lively chart her own red carpet course. “I look at the whole story — I won’t say ‘journey’ because I saw Anna Wintour’s 73 Questions [Vogue] video (ed note: that’s the word Wintour wishes banned from fashion vocabulary) — when doing any sort of press tour or when doing multiple events, and say ok, how can I diversify these looks?” she says. “[I want] to make them exciting but also not totally manic.”

Blake Lively cannesTony Barson/FilmMagic

One stop on her multi-gown, ahem, journey at the Cannes Film Festival in May was a graphic yet classic Gucci Première confection (above) she wore to the premiere of husband Ryan Reyonlds‘s film The Captive. “It might be my favorite look I’ve ever worn,” she says. “I just love that old school glamour.”

It was the gown’s “old school” charm that made it one of her contenders for the 2014 Met Gala, where she wore a different stunning Gucci Première designk. “It was Charles James-inspired. If you look at the martini silhouette, you can identify that,” she explains of the black fluted accent down the center of the gown. “But because of the theme, there was a risk that someone might be wearing something similar.” True story: even Blake Lively has to consider ways to avoid a fashion faceoff.

In case you often find yourself wondering, “Is there anything that Blake Lively can’t wear?” (like the editors at PEOPLE do on a daily basis), she says that yes, there is a style the star strays away from.

“There are things that I see on Kate Moss and think, ‘I have to have that,’ but when I try it on me I look like a potato,” she reveals. “I don’t like to wear things that don’t look right on my body … that 1920s drop waist, or even ’60s mod. If you don’t cinch in the waist it looks like I’m just hiding, you know, animals? I just start to look like the cargo part of an airplane.”

The closest you’ll get to seeing Blake go mod/as a cargohold was her Michael Kors look at the CFDAs, which she says was her “faking the ’60s” because she gave the shift silhouette a little bit of a waist.

Another standout look of Lively’s was not seen on the red carpet, but on the streets of New York City (right photo above). It’s a Valentino coat emblazoned with butterflies and “Fastissima” booties by her go-to shoe designer, Christian Louboutin, that Lively explains “change colors as you move.”

“Those shoes were at Christian’s atelier in Paris, and [when] I went into the store they were in a glass box spinning with a light on them,” she shares. “I felt like Dorothy seeing the ruby slippers, and he took them out and put them on me.”

She was permitted to wear them to a Chanel event that evening, and then, yes, she was allowed to keep them. “It was so generous. I’m still dying. I go into my closet and look at those shoes all the time,” she says. But the gift wasn’t a true Cinderella-glass-slipper moment. “I’m just going to say it right here, they’re a size too small! I lied and was like, ‘They fit perfectly!’ It’s very rare that I get to keep the stuff I wear, so those shoes are a huge huge deal.” As for the Valentino coat? It went back: “Oh my gosh, I didn’t get to keep that one,” she says with a sigh.

After the Dorothy reference about her Louboutins, and seeing the Balmain mini (center) she wore for her self-described “coming out” as a brand ambassador for L’Oreal Paris, you might have guessed Lively’s got a thing for the yellow brick road. “I’m far too obsessed with the Wizard of Oz,” she says. “So having baby blue and white gingham and adding hand embroidered crystals all over that? I mean, come on. It’s like the modern day Parisian Dorothy.” And though “Balmain can be very strong and dominating and sexy,” she says, “there was sweetness to this one.”

Unfortunately, the rest of us have to wait till next spring for the lipsticks to hit stores — but those who got a preview shared their early thoughts on the new colors.

“I love that it is matte,” Longoria says of her shade. “It’s easy to wear and makes a bold and modern impact, perfect for day or night. The brick rouge is the perfect color for me.”

Says Moore of her hue, “Because I’m so fair, I always thought a bright red lip would not be flattering. But with ‘Vermillion Rouge,’ I found a beautiful and intense red that complements my skin tone. It’s so easy to apply and wear, it seems made for me.”

Blake Lively Unintentionally Makes Overgrown Roots Look Cool (Again)

Aside from straight-off-the-runway gowns, sexy knee-high boots, plunging necklines and puppy prints, Lively is adding a new maternity-chic must-have to her list: edgy, exposed roots.

Blake Lively hairCredit: Charles Sykes/Invision/AP

We first spotted this while stalking (err, browsing?) her on Instagram. She was snapped looking gorgeous per usual in an epic Lindsay Thornburg Cloak (that can be yours too for a cool $1,350). Then we noticed something new: The always immaculately-blonde bombshell had quite a bit of her dark roots showing.

Over the weekend when the star appeared alongside Martha Stewart at the American Made Summit (in this photo above), her brunette roots were in full effect.

But is the new look intentional? Or is the star just being a cautious momma-to-be and skipping the salon appointments? We checked in with celeb colorist Rona O’Connor (owner of Lukaro salon in Beverly Hills) who tinted Lively’s locks for years to get her expert opinion.

“Most likely she’s just taking a break from getting her hair colored while she’s pregnant,” O’Connor says of that famous mane. The colorist also explained that, “while many expecting women opt out of hair color during their pregnancy, there isn’t any science or studies that have found it to be harmful. It’s really just about whatever you feel the most comfortable with.” Side note: O’Connor has worked with many other pregnant celebs (like Debra Messing and Brooke Shields) who continued getting touched-up while knocked-up. “Debra just got her usual color and for Brooke we used foils, which don’t directly touch your scalp.”

RELATED: Check out Blake Lively’s amazing bump style here!

Since Lively’s usually golden hue is one of the most requested in salons, we bet that her new slightly darker shade is going to reignite the huge exposed-root hair color craze that was trending a few seasons back.

Blake Lively recently told us it’s “rare” for her to keep the gorgeous clothes she wears, but the star’s latest jaw-dropping gown definitely has a place in her closet. That’s because she bought it herself!

Lively purchased the black, backless KaufmanFranco gown she wore to Tuesday’s L’Oréal Paris’s ninth annual Women of Worth Awards. And once again, she proudly put her growing bump on display. (We wonder if she’ll recycle it post-baby?) See the look from all angles below.

While many moms-to-be might steer away from skin-baring clothes, Lively has been proudly showing off her growing belly on the red carpet in high-fashion labels, from Michael Kors to Gucci. The 27-year-old actress is also making dark roots look totally cool again. (Seriously, pregnant Blake our new favorite Blake.)

Plus, Lively is definitely the one calling all the shots on her maternity wear.

“It’s such a passion of mine,” she told PEOPLE in September. “That’s the reason I don’t have a stylist, not because I think I can do it better than any of these people, but because I just love it so much that it would be like handing over something. It would be like making a cake and then handing it off to someone else to ice and decorate. Why would you do that?”

As for motherhood, the star feels prepared for the challenge thanks to her upbringing and the strong women in her life.

“My mom was someone who juggled everything. She had her own career, she raised five kids, she was Superwoman,” Lively shared. “And she was never satisfied doing just one thing because … she probably just had too much energy. So for me, it was important to have that because that’s what I felt like I knew best.”

Celebrity moms love to go shopping in their daughters’ closets. Kris and Kim. Princess Kate and Carole. Sarah and Bristol. Now we can add Blake and Elaine Lively to the list. The chic grandmother wore one of Blake’s most buzzed-about capes to the Marchesa Fashion Show this week, and we’re very, very jealous.

Blake made her return to the red carpet at NYFW, two months after giving birth to her daughter with husband Ryan Reynolds. And of course her wardrobe immediately captivated our attention. The new mom brought her parents (Elaine and Ernie) along with her for the Marchesa show, and her mom seemed to have recreated one of Blake’s best maternity looks from last fall — a red-and-black, tribal-inspired Ralph Lauren cloak, teamed with skinnies and boots.

Blake’s hair is also having a moment, thanks to her dark roots. It seems the actress has yet to pay a visit to her colorist post-baby, still, we imagine, in nesting mode. And if anyone can make roots cool again, it’s the famous blonde.

Blake Lively's Age of Adaline Wardrobe: Those Turtlenecks Were Her Idea

Thought you already wanted every single outfit Blake Lively steps out in (maternity looks included)? Just wait until you see her character’s wardrobe in her new film, The Age of Adaline. It could be her most stylish role yet — sorry, Serena van der Woodsen! We got a peek at one of the nine exclusive “Adaline Through the Ages” character posters (this one’s from the ’70s!) and found out how the costume designer and makeup artist helped age her without really aging her.

Playing a character born at the turn of the century — but who never physically ages past 29 — Lively embodies the most stylish looks from every decade. Costume designer Angus Strathie (who nabbed an Oscar for his work on Moulin Rouge) explains that his challenge was to make Adaline look age-appropriate, despite her outward appearance never changing.

“Mixing styles became Adaline’s personal look,” he says. “She draws from all of her time on earth and she gets a sense of security from her wardrobe.”

In one scene, Adaline goes on a date wearing something from every decade: a 1920s bohemian jacket, worn over a 1960s skirt and sweater and accessorized with a 1940s handbag. “Incorporating those vintage pieces into her contemporary look gives her an individual style,” he says.

The same goes for the film’s vintage hair accessories, which hair stylist Anne Carroll tracked down from her travels around the world. “If Adaline had something from the 1940s, it is still something that she would still possibly wear,” she explains. “She spent her lifetime collecting.”

But as for her turtleneck in the 1970s poster? That was all Lively. “It was Blake’s idea to include a number of classic turtlenecks in Adaline’s wardrobe,” says Strathie. “And it was a good idea! It aged her in a good way by making her look a little conservative and covered up.”

It’s no surprise that she had a hand in the movie’s wardrobe, after explaining to us that she styles all of her own red carpet looks. “It’s such a passion of mine,” she shared. “That’s the reason I don’t have a stylist, not because I think I can do it better than any of these people, but because I just love it so much that it would be like handing over something. It would be like making a cake and then handing it off to someone else to ice and decorate. Why would you do that?” (And even more telling? Many of the pieces are Gucci, a favorite brand of hers — she fronts the brand’s Première fragrance, after all.)

And to create a beauty look that would reflect the character’s aging-but-not-aging dilemma, makeup artist Monica Huppert referenced a collection of authentic period makeup she kept in her trailer to draw inspiration. Her goal was to subtly change the style of makeup for each decade, while still retaining Adaline’s overall classic look.

For ’70s-appropriate shades using modern makeup, Huppert used L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Lipcolor in Permanent Blush and L’Oréal Paris Visible Lift Blur Blush in Soft Peach (Lively’s a spokesperson for that brand as well).

Can’t wait until the film comes out on April 24? We’re betting Lively will give us plenty of perfectly-put-together promotional tour outfits in the meantime.

Shailene Woodley Uses What?! To Perfect Her Pout (Plus, 4 More Stars Who Love Food in Their Beauty Routine)

Shailene Woodley’s always been very open about her natural beauty remedies (including giving her nether regions some much-needed Vitamin D, ingesting clay on a daily basis or swapping out her toothpaste for sesame oil). But it seems the star’s natural beauty arsenal keeps expanding — she’s now swearing by a pigment-packed vegetable to give her pout a pop of color. But of course, she’s not alone in loving food-based beauty products.

The 23-year-old actress recently told Bon Appétit that she uses beets as an all-natural lip color. “It’s totally awesome,” she told the mag about using the vegetable for beauty purposes. “Beets are amazing. If you roast them you’ll get a better lipstick,” she says. “They’re not as potent and they don’t stain the same way if they’re raw. So I roast them first and then just dab a little of the juice on my lips with my finger.”

While Woodley may rely on beauty products plucked straight from the garden, Blake Lively can pick up one of her favorite beauty remedies (which gives her Serena van der Woodsen tresses its signature shine) at a local supermarket — in the condiment aisle. “My mom taught me this really great beauty tip,” she told Byrdie. “She used to put oil or mayonnaise on the bottom half of her hair before she would shower. That way, when she would shampoo, the soap wouldn’t strip the bottom of the hair and dry it out, making it brittle.”

And speaking of hair products, Pretty Little Liars star and lifestyle blogger Shay Mitchell keeps her hair healthy with a little help from everyone’s favorite natural ingredient: coconut oil, which she uses as a deep conditioner. “It’s a secret my mom always told me, being from the Philippines,” she told PEOPLE. “They used it all the time, and her hair is still fabulous!”

PEOPLE’s Most Beautiful Woman Lupita Nyong’o, a brand ambassador for Lancôme, is also a fan of incorporating edible ingredients into her everyday skincare routine. And with her (flawless) skin, we just might, too. “My skin tends to be very dry,” she told Redbook. “So I use avocado oil to take off my makeup, which helps keep my face moisturized.”

And finally, How To Get Away With Murder star Viola Davis relies on a kitchen staple to keep her limbs (and feet!) extra hydrated. “I put [Crisco] on my feet, as a lubricant on my feet, I just go in there and put it all over my bunion and my toes and the bottom of my feet,” she previously said on an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “First of all, it gets rid of the ash, and certain people in the audience know what ash is — it’s just dry skin. I recommend it!”

Is Blake Lively Cheating on Christian Louboutin? See Her Updated Shoe Game

Blake Lively has made one pretty big change in her personal style since giving birth to daughter James in December. Don’t worry, she’s not eschewing her signature sexy silhouettes now that she’s a mom, but the high-heel devotee has seemingly put her love affair with shoe designer Christian Louboutin (she’s said he handpicks pairs for her!) on the back burner in favor of a new designer: Stuart Weitzman.

Blake Lively Startraks

Lively’s been favoring open-toe styles for her Age of Adaline press tour so far. On Wednesday (above), she paired Stuart Weitzman’s “Showgirl” sandal in Dandelion with a Lindsey Thornburg floral wrap-dress that’s available exclusively on her site, Preserve.

On Tuesday, she chose floral low-slung Rialto Jean Project boyfriend jeans (yep, also they’re a Preserve exclusive too) with a soft Roland Mouret trench and the brand’s “Showgirl” sandal, this time in Sky.

This past weekend, her fuchsia “Myslide” mules played off the wavy pattern in her Roksanda peplum skirt.

And in between all her promo stops, the star made some time to try on even more stylish sandals, fawning over a pair of floral-embellished Sophia Webster heels — and proving that she’s officially obsessed with colorful shoes this season.

Blake Lively Looks Super-Hot at Age of Adaline Premiere, Ryan Reynolds Gets a Little Jealous

The PEOPLE style team suffers from a condition known as “Blake Envy.” Yes, we’re referring to Blake Lively and her impeccable style (and ridiculously perfect hair). And when the actress is on a movie promo tour, our condition is at an all time high. She certainly didn’t help us kick it at her first big red carpet event for Age of Adaline, where she rocked shiny waves and two (count ’em) bold outfits. She looked so sexy, in fact, that her husband Ryan Reynolds (who was not at the premiere) got a little protective over the internet.

Lively stunned in a red Monique Lhuillier gown featuring a ruffled tiered skirt and lace-and-leather corset bodice. She teamed her look with a sparkly crystal Judith Leiber koi fish clutch, Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Sophia Webster heels. And before you make a joke about her looking like everyone’s favorite 💃 emoji, you’re too late: She beat you to it.

Instagram Photo

Lively’s co-star Michiel Huisman looked dapper at her side on the red carpet in an off-white suit. And when Lionsgate (the studio behind the movie) Tweeted that the duo was the “perfect pair,” Reynolds quickly responded on Twitter:

Obviously it was all in good fun, but let’s hope this inspires him to attend more red carpets with her (how else can we get more drop-dead moments like these?).

For the afterparty, Lively ditched her voluminous confection (and swept back her waves into an updo) in favor of a black Monique Lhuillier menswear-inspired coatdress, featuring a sheer star-printed turtleneck and stocking-like pants (which Lively calls “superpants”) underneath. She paired that look with a Judith Leiber clutch and Christian Louboutin shoes (marking a return to her favorite shoe designer).

Loving her beauty look? The L’Oréal Paris spokeswoman got her glow by way of makeup artist Elaine Offers, who used the line’s Colour Riche La Palette Nude to give depth and dimension to a bronze smoky eye, then combined the Infallible Lipliner in Coral and Colour Riche Balm Pop in Bold Blush for a defined, pretty lip that wasn’t overly “done.”
